A lot of hot science has ignited the solar physics community at NCAR and elsewhere. Solar telescope instrumentation and observatories on Mauna Loa and Haleakala in Hawaii are poised to enlighten our understanding of not only the Sun, but its bursts of flares and coronal mass ejections that threaten Earth's electrical and communication systems from a mere 93-million miles away.

Sun & Space Weather Teaching Box

This Teaching Box will help your students learn to identify features of the Sun using images with "light" from different regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Many solar features play roles in the eruption of space weather "storms", so knowledge of these features is a prerequisite for understanding and predicting space weather events.
