Presenter: William Cooper, Senior Scientist Emeritus
Date: Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Former NCAR Advanced Study Program Director and Senior Scientist Emeritus, William Cooper, presents useful advice to early-career scientists on what helps a proposal succeed based primarily on his experience as a program officer at the NSF and his many other scientific roles throughout his career.

The talk has three parts:
- how to develop the project idea
- how to develop a detailed project design
- how to avoid common problems when writing the proposal.

Cooper also discusses ways to use grants to further one's career, learn about grant opportunities, and how to communicate with program officers.
